two-hundred year history of this nation, Booker T. Washington and George
Washington Carver are the only two African Americans whose images have
ever appeared on money minted in the United States.
According to Allan
Crawford, owner of the California Coin and Stamp Shop in Oakland, California,
"the George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington coins were issued
in the same manner as the John F. Kennedy, Susan B. Anthony and George
Washington half dollars. They are commemorative coins but were released
in general circulation."
